Communications skills for working in the health sector
This unit looks at the effect of communication within all aspects in the health sector. It looks at the importance of ensuring you communicate using the individual’s preferred methods of communication and how to observe reactions to support the communication cycle. The unit also looks into barriers to communication and ways to reduce or remove these, preparing the learner to be able to work with service users who may have varied communication needs. You will also cover some issues surrounding confidentiality and when information may be shared.
Equality and diversity in the health care sector
This unit will look at inclusion, equality, diversity and rights within health and social care. You will gain an understanding on how discrimination may occur within the workplace and look at key legislation and codes of practice relating to this. You will also look at ways to challenge discrimination within the workplace.
Health, safety and security in the health sector
This unit will look at the main legislation regarding health and safety within the health sector as well as the main points of health and safety policies. This will give you the knowledge required in order to work in a health setting, and how to respond to emergency situations and to report issues.
Maintaining quality standards in the health sector
The unit aim is to gain an understanding of how to deliver quality standards of service. You will look at legislation, policies and procedures in the health sector. You will learn the importance of working with others, delivering service within their boundaries of knowledge and expertise and reporting and seeking help to use resources efficiently.
People and personal development in the health sector
This unit looks at the standards which influence the way that you will be required to work within health sector and the expectations of a named work role in relation to the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF).
Service improvement in the health sector
The aim of the unit is to develop the ability to contribute to service improvement in the health sector and to enable you to make suggestions relating to improvements to service provision. The unit looks at how to carry out evaluative work, identify issues and improvements and implement changes to practice.
